Discovery by the end of the century. XVII (1225 - 1621)

In 1702, establishes a true Portuguese administration in Timor, it stood at Lifau in Oé-Cussi enclave. In 1769, due to the war with the local kinglet, the capital was transferred to Dili. On 24 August 1886 the files of Finance, including Lifau, are lost in a fire.

Until 1945 - 1951

After the war reappears the problem of currency and it is decided to maintain the Pataca as official currency and, for the first time, begins to coinage for the colony.  On 1945-1951 are issued silver coins 50 Avos (½ Pataca) , alpaca 20 cents and Bronze 10 Avos. They are also issued 5 Patacas notes.

From 1952-1957 there is no minting currency.

In 1958 it is reshaped monetary and abandoned system Pataca as official currency. However, since a Pataca was worth $ 6 00, the new system has this into account by the issuing 1958 consists of silver coins 6 $ 00 and 3 $ 00 alpaca 1 $ 00 and $ 60 and Bronze $ 30 and $ 10. In 1964 it issued a silver coin of 10 $ 00.
