Achieving financial inclusion has been one of the priorities for the BCTL since 2013.
The BCTL continues to promote Financial Inclusion activities in Timor-Leste by encouraging banks to deliver financial services at affordable costs to sections of disadvantaged and low-income segments of society and unbanked people.
As stated in the Financial Sector Master Plan, increasing financial inclusion will require the financial system to extend its reach through both ‘bottom up’ and ‘top down’ approaches; that is, through the growth of, and emergence of additional, institutions that bring new customers into the system and through well-established institutions extending the reach and scope of their customer relationships.
Currently, BCTL has initiated several projects associated with financial inclusion such as Agent Banking, Children’s savings accounts; National Card and mobile switch ect.
