Financial Education Program at Elementary Schools
The Banco Central de Timor-Leste has developed the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion in order to promote financial services access to entire adult population in Timor-Leste.
Financial literacy is essential to promote financial inclusion. In order to uplift the level of financial literacy among the population, BCTL has also developed a National Strategy for Financial Literacy.
The Financial Literacy Program at Elementary Schools has been implemented since 2016 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEJD).
BCTL and MEJD have conducted the pilot for the Financial Literacy Program for Elementary Schools since 2016. After a comprehensive evaluation, MEJD decided to include the financial literacy program in the extra curriculum of the elementary schools, and consequently scaling up the program to all public schools in the country.
BCTL and Instituto Nacional de Formação de Docentes e Profissionais da Educação (INFORDEPE) have been working together in the train-of-trainers activities to disseminate the Financial Literacy materials and contents.
